Kingchan, a baby abandoned at a Chan Poh tree, is adopted by Headman Sanit. She struggles to get along with his family, so Sriprapai—Sanit’s daughter by a mistress—takes her to live at Waradul Palace. Sriprapai is the second wife of H.S.H. Issaresgunthorn. Kingchan admires her and soon meets M.R. Rungwigrai, Sriprapai’s stepson, who cares for his mentally ill mother locked away in another part of the palace.

Rungwigrai falls for Kingchan, but she loves Klao, a humble worker. They make a promise of love. At first, Kingchan feels pity for Rungwigrai’s odd behavior, but later grows to hate him when he tries to assault her. She runs away with Klao, but Rungwigrai sends men to attack them, and Klao is beaten to death. Kingchan is devastated and nearly loses her sanity.

Filled with rage, she returns to Waradul Palace and marries Rungwigrai—not out of love, but to take revenge on everyone who wronged her.
