Based on a Thai legend, this story tells of the unearthly love between Mak and his wife Nak, who dies during childbirth while Mak is away at war—but returns as a ghost to stay with her child. When Mak comes home, he finds his wife and baby seemingly alive.

In this version, their tragic fate is caused by Mae Muean, Mak’s overbearing mother and Nak’s cruel mother-in-law, whose mistreatment leads to Nak’s doom.
