Bunga, a half-Thai Chinese-Malay orphan, lives a quiet life with her grandmother Kimluan in the South, making ends meet by tapping rubber. But when deceitful Boss Wieng tricks Kimluan into a loan using Bunga as collateral, Bunga is nearly forced to become his mistress.

She escapes and boards a train to Pattani, where she meets her first love, Tawan. Just as love begins to bloom, tragedy strikes—Kimluan falls ill, and as Bunga and Tawan rush home, Wieng gives chase. In the chaos, Bunga is lost at sea during a storm, and the lovers are torn apart.
