In the early 12th-century Da Chu dynasty, the empire teeters on the edge of chaos, plagued by corruption and tyranny. After the ruthless Emperor kills Empress Yao Mo Xin, her vengeful spirit takes refuge in the body of her gentle younger sister, Yao Mo Wan. Determined to seek justice, the Empress returns to the palace in disguise. There, she joins forces with Ye Jun Qing, a noble young prince, and together they uncover dark secrets at the heart of the court.
